The Silk Floss Tree

Monte Carlo has many wonderful trees and this is one of the most beautiful - the Silk Floss tree - correctly the Chorisia Speciosa. I've seen it flowering in several locations in Monaco, here it is in the gardens just below the casino. You can see the cruise liner, MSC Sinfonia through the branches.

Your tree is a chorisia speciosa commonly called silk floss tree. I posted three pictures of it on Oct. 21 07. I also posted the orchid tree flower on Oct. 26 07. The chorisia is my favorite and it's been in bloom for three months now.

Thanks so much TOG for correcting me. The flower looked so similar (to my uneducated gardening eye) to the Orchid tree, but now I see how totally different the leaves are. Much appreciated. I've changed the name in the posting as you can see.

It's beautiful and I love its name. Interesting to see natural beauty and then a man-made object behind it--a polluting one at that, or shouldn't I say that?!!

I'm with Kate, a really nice name for a beautiful tree.

That's a beautiful flower. I can't remember seeing one of those trees.

I wish I could be on that boat right now! :-D

Was this picture taken now? Don't you want us to ship you a little snow when it'll hit here?

Wow! I am so glad that you and TOG posted about this tree. I've seen them here in San Diego, one in bloom and another with the pods of cotton, but I never realized that they the same tree. It is a beautiful tree.

In the last few weeks I have been taking pictures of different color variations of the Floss Silk Tree flower. If you are interested I´ve just posted them to my tree-species blog.
