Grand Prix Historique - Race Day - 2

You may remember the framework for the television screen - you can see it again on the left. Above and below you see that screen on race day.

See how small the screen looks tho compared to the original steel structure. It sort of gets lost amongs the buildings. Nevertheless it's exciting to watch the race twice - you see the cars whizzing up the hill to Casino Square and you also see them someone else on the racetrack on the screen.

Ah, but you had a splendid location to see everything, including this! The rooftop folks across from you didn't have your advantage.

These images brought back a nearly lost early childhood memory of my older brother carving one of these cars from soft wood, adding wheels somehow, painting it, and entering it in a race against other Boy Scouts.

I should add, the car was toy sized!

You lucky thing. Being there and seeing all the action for free. All the male bloggers out there are very jealous of you. Including me!

Those cars remind me of michel Vaillant, a BD (comic book series) that I used to steal from my big brother as a kid. MV was always racing the bad guys and would always get the nice girl at the end. And of course in the middle, there was so much drama with the bad guys stealing wheels and whatnot from the Vaillant team. Good times. No such rivalty between the teams in Monaco?

We had a small view of the track and my husband spent the whole weekend with binoculars clamped to his eyes, reverting to his childhood!

Even among the buildings the screen is still pretty damn big. Does it have sound with it? Or is the actual sound of the race loud enough to carry?

With all the different building styles and the screen in the middle, this photo almost looks like a collage!

love the big screen. it's fab to see "tout le monde" in town. having known so little about the GP and seeing so much of what goes on it seems that accommodations are comfy for most all. Did someone mention "pink champagne"? All the champagne we have had has been plain. so the "pink champagne" seems, well, interesting to say the least.ha. Although that sun wouldn't make it too comfortable for that.

apparantly all the yachts get a good view from where they are from the sun worshipers groups!

All these articles have really helped to give a "clearer" pic as to what the GP is all about. we hope to see more!! Floppyfeet
