What Financial Crisis? - the Yachts

Recession? Did President Bush say 'recession?'

In Port Hercule you'll find the 18th Monaco Yacht Show Les yachts 'bling-bling' as Nice-Matin calls them.

Yachts include two of Roman Abramovitch's 4 yachts: Le Pelorus (115 metres) and Le Grand Blue (113 m). He's apparently having a fifth yacht built which will measure 170 metres.

You'll also find the following yachts in the port or moored out at sea: The Golden Star owned by the Sheik of Dubai, the Sultan of Saudi Arabia's Le Al Salamah, Larry Ellison's The Rising Sun, Paul Allen's (Microsoft) Octopus. Atlantis II, always in port, belongs to the Niarchos Greek shipping family.

There's also an amazing yacht called the 'A' which belongs to another Russian billionaire, Andrei Melnichenko and named after his catwalk model wife, Aleksandra. It's attracted a lot of attention. It cost £200 million. Click on the link - it's an extraordinary looking creation built by the German company that constructed the battleship, Bismarck, the Pride of the Nazi fleet.

If there is a recession looming, you'd not know it in Monaco this morning - although I'd not be surprised if some of those yacht brokers aren't a little worried...

OK your job is to get us all on that one at the bottom with what appears to be 2 swimming pools. These are amazing and all shiny white floating in the gorgeous blue water.

The "A" is amazing!

As the saying goes, "a rising tide lifts all boats." I may not have a vessel but I am waiting for the tide of social compassion to raise everyone's boat.

which one is the "A"? however, never has there been such a huge collection of boats in one place. Good going Monaco!! With Monaco's sunny weather disposition it's no surprise though is it??!

Don't be surpised if you see more yachts filling up the harbor as all those Wall Street tycoons head out of town looking for calmer waters. The whole debacle makes me fighting mad.

We'll watch as the tycoons try to outsail the justafiably outraged working class that will soon be coming after them with pitchforks and torches. Either that, or some of those yacht owners will be offering tours for a fee in days to come -- kind of like when some dukes and duchesses of England once had to do guided tours of their estates in order to get money to eat.

This financial mess is really freaking me out.

I'd love to ride on one of these!

Ah, gimme a 10 foot dinghy any day!

Okay, maybe I could live with the 60 meter cutter-rigged schooner with the jacuzzi behind the mizen mast and the bar amidships (third from the bottom), but I bet I do a lot more sailing in my Bauer Classic 10!

A friend of mine is crewing on a 250 foot power yacht crossing the Atlantic to Monaco... what a life!

Nice picture of the "little" 10 meter sailboat and motor yacht cruising through mega-yacht docks!

You know, I have nothing against financial success and really, really enjoy having some disposable income, but the "A" yacht is obscene. I hope that this individual (and others like him) is also doing something that benefits humanity and helps those who find life difficult.

You know, I was just thinking to myself the other day "Hmmm....four yachts....that's not quite enough, is it!"

All the yachts in the picture are smaller vessels - The large yachts can't get all the way into Port Hercule ... The yacht at the bottom left hand side - 'Kokomo' is currently for sale for 35 Million Euros if any of you are interested ...

I.Y.C.A [the port along the coast in Antibes] is where the superyachts are mostly kept ... All the enormous ones have their home berths there - Port Hercule in Monaco is for the amateurs, not the big boys!
