Fête Nationale - the Weight of the Law

Clad in their bright red robes, members of the legal profession are about to enter Monaco's beautiful cathedral.

Built in 1875 using stone from La Turbie, the present-day Cathedral stands on the site of a 13th century church dedicated to Saint Nicolas and houses the tombs of the former Princes of Monaco. It is also the final resting place of Monaco's much loved Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, the parents of H.S.H. Prince Albert II.

How crisp and clear everything looks on these recent photos of yours! And what a hunk the fellow is who's using his cell phone. I've enjoyed browsing thru your photos that I've missed!

Oh, I do like this idea of dressing lawyers in red. They need to stand out over here. OJ Simpson is a classic example of why...

I think this is my first trip to this blog in a long time.

It is cold this morning – 13 degree Fahrenheit = -10.5555556 degree Celsius.

Kiss a dog for me if you can.

I love this shot, and thank you for the history. The green of the Cypress tree as well as the shape is really cool. Have a great weekend. Love from The Prairie. xoxo. Oh, and the dude on the cell is too much !!!

What a fab photo most of us would have never guessed that the memebership of the legal profession in Monaco wore those fab robes. It's very striking beautiful contrast. The scarves accent was a surprise since it was around 68 degress out there. Around here thaaats a heaaat wave!! it's always cool here. however a nice touch with the guards in tow.

Very beautiful pics indeed. They had a great day for it that's for sure.

A very intimidating sight they must have been.

The cathedral looks magnificent — the details look fabulous. I'm guessing that the interior's even more intricate — I can get lost in there for hours!

They look elegant in their robes. Your series on the Fête Nationale is very interesting.

Some of the lawyers here need to dress up in spiffy red robes. Maybe they wouldn't look like such ..... herummmm..... nevermind.

They make a lovely colorful procession.

America needs more beautiful pageantry like you have in Europe. It reminds us to clean up our act once in a while. You know, wash our faces, put on feather-crested hats, hold our heads up, etc. I think the last regalia I wore was the cap and gown of college graduation.

I didn't realize that the red-robed ones were lawyers, I actually thought they were cardinals of the Church. I learn.

Thanks for your sweet comments about Bingo and the new pup. My daughter got her at a shelter and don't know what she will grow up to be. Oh yes, Bingo is so happy. MB
