A Boatload of Kids

I wonder if these children appreciate how privileged they are to go out on the water at Port Hercule as part of their education.

The colors are beautiful, the blue of the water & the red boat. Very nice.

I hope so, also, about the children's sense of appreciation, but I doubt it. My parents at times reminded me of my complaint as a child that "We never go any where. We never do anything." This, spoken by a youngster who by age 13 had lived in Maine, San Diego, Hawaii, St. Louis, and had traveled to Japan, etc.

My mother lived her entire life in one town until she went away for college, and my father's grandfather never left the county in which was born in rural Ohio. They found my spoiled complaint rather hard to take, to the point of amusement.

They probably don't, because as a child, one tends to take everything for granted, but it does not hurt to remind them. ;-) My son is fortunate enough to travel to Europe to visit our relatives for part of the summer. I never fail to tell him that some friends of his hardly leave the neighborhood... -- Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

Um, not at all. I do hope they learn something valuable but it make me think of my middle-middle class childhood, when our most exotic nautical voyage was the Staten Island Ferry from lower Manhattan. It cost five cents then. It's free now for pedestrians. The fare on this zodiac must be more dear.
