Italian style summer vacation .. go to the Bagni. Which is a piece of beach, checkered with umbrellas (very nicely captured in picture above) and separated from the larger public by fences and worse.
While Menton has part of its Baie de Garavan dedicated to the privately run Bagnis, further west in France the beaches become almost exclusively public when you hit the Atlantic.

This is so very different than our beaches in Costa Rica. All of them are public property. Anyone can walk anywhere on the beach. There are no areas reserved for certain hotels, etc.

Umbrellas "cheek by jowl," people cheek to cheek. I am so glad I am not there, preferring breezy shade under trees than an over-populated beach.

Too crowded for me...and certainly little chance of burning under all of those parasol. Here all beaches are public and most have plenty of space to be alone if you want. Great shot Jilly.
