Fête Nationale - the little Princess

Little girls are little girls, even if they are royal. Here you see Princess Alexandra with her mother, Princess Caroline - the eldest of Prince Albert's two sisters. Red stockinged foot through the balustrade, watching the excitement below.

In the smaller photograph you see Princess Alexandra with her father Prince Ernest August of Hanover and her half sister, Charlotte Casiraghi.

Both photographs taken by Maggie Calkins - thankyou Maggie!

jilly, your site is now part of my morning routine. always great photos and subjects. you always succeed at catching the 'slice of life' moments. i love the simple, documentary style you use. so many other 'city' photoblogs photographers try a little too hard to show close-ups and abstracts... often nothing related to the city they are in. i do love the occasional close up of architecture and sculpture, but you thankfully let each days' subjects and the city itself remain the star focal point.

brava, jilly.

keep it up.

Thanks so much to everyone for kind comments on this series. I've enjoyed it too! Going to Monte Carlo from Menton is like going on holiday for me!

And thankyou Rick for your much appreciated comments.

Oh, Princess Caroline - she's my favorite...such tragedy in her life - but, from what I've heard this marriage is a good one and the child is beautiful.

It is hard to imagine them as grown up - having always thought of them as Pricess Grace's children and watching them grow up in the newspapers and magazines.

Yes, it appears ernest and Caroline are doing wonderful as well as stephanie and the kids as always! While the PA and his families pics are always my fav. Truly the one's where Charlotte is with Alexandria did turn out beautiful, it seems Alexandra she will have the same beautiful photos as Charlotte as she grows older the resemblence between the two is amazing!!

No Andrea? Was he not present?

It's so rare that all the family are back here at the same time, as it's only Stephanie & Albert who live here. Caroline & Ernst all over Europe it sometimes seems, Andrea in Paris & NYC, Pierre in Milan & Charlotte in London ... Though Caroline & her kids have never really lived in Monaco since the 80's I guess ... Great pictures anyway.

This serie of pictures is a great pic at the Royal family..
The little princess's mother is exactly my age and I am glad to see her as a real person with no "Touch up" from the magazines photographers!!

Wonderful photos - thank you and Maggie for sharing these. Princess Caroline has always been a favorite of mine too. I like Marie-Noyale's comment.

I too am the same age as Caroline. And Charlotte looks like the spitting image of her mother! Grimaldi/Casiraghi genes; the little one has more Hanoverian part.

Fabulous pics from Maggie. PA has developed his father's tummy! Caroline still looks good and Charlotte is stunning isn't she. The little one needs time to grow into her looks, I think.
