Fête XVIIIth Century - the Pirates

Copyright 2009 Monte Carlo Daily Photo. All rights reserved.

There were all sorts of Johnny Depp types in front of the Palais Princier. Note the quality of the costumes. The black outfit seen below is made of pieces of leather finished with three rather lethal looking knives.

That is a face right out of a Disney movie!

Oh my, this guy looks like he is quite a character....with a twisted beard to match!

Jilly, are the participants local residents? Professional actors or volunteers?

Did he manage to say an authentic "Ooh arr" and maybe add a Jim lad?

I certainly won't be bothering any of these guys!

Maria, there were 300 volunteers working on the day. However, most of the stalls were run by professionals and there were many small companies - ie musicians of many sorts, groups who threw flags, and all the specialists - like the gunsmith - well they are experts in their field. Short answer I don't know if the pirates, for instance, were just locals dressed up or a group who go around France doing this sort of thing at festivals - perhaps actors? Maybe the guy we see today is the local bank manager!

Certainly at the beginning of the day I photographed lots of them getting ready and they all seemed to know each other well, so that leads me to suppose they are local.
