Jardin Exotique - Burned Trees

This is one of a series of sculptures by Philippe Pastor called 'Les Arbres Brûlés' - Burned Trees. You see the full sculpture in the smaller photograph.

Philippe Pastor is a Monegasque sculptor. You can see more in the Burned Trees series HERE when they were exhibited last year in the Casino Gardens.

All the sculptures in this series were created using scorched tree trunks from the Garde Freinet Forest, near to St. Tropez along the coast from Monaco. It was devastated by fire in the summer of 2003. They bear witness to the artist's intention to make the public aware of the fragility of the environment and the necessity of protecting it.

When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought "what's this vandalism in MC, never!". So not surprisingly it's art, even though it looks like a broken mirror. I wonder if he got 7 years bad luck for breaking the glass?

This one too caught me by surprise and just shows that yes the camera sometimes does not capture the whole story. Startling imagery made clear by the text. As GM Says art of course which is so subjective. Smashing image in more ways than one.

Ah-ha, isn't that interesting?

Cracked mirrors - I'm amazed to see how similar our shots are!

Nathalie, this artist must think like Nathalie! When I saw it I knew it had to be photographed. As you see there are cracked mirrors all the way down the sculpture.

I like your first picture, Jilly, how you used a part of the sculpture, to make something completely different. It's your vision.
Now, the workart by itself is interesting too. But I guess it's more impressive to see it for real.

I had to read the link to undersstand. This is very interesting Jilly. Glad you showed the closeup and the larger version.

Many thanks for your very nice comments about the portrait today. She was a lucky find for sure!
